Giant Hollywood-inspired sign to welcome visitors in 'Wellywood'

The famous giant size Hollywood landmark has inspired another massive sign that will welcome visitors to the home of Middle Earth and Pandora in New Zealand.

The sign in Wellington's Miramar peninsula will be 3.5 meters (11 feet) tall and 28m (92ft) long and will read "Wellywood", revealed The Dominion Post.

The sign will celebrate the city's successful film industry.

Miramar is home to ten film companies, including the award-winning special effects crew at Weta - the brains behind 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Avatar'.

'Lord of the Rings' director and Oscar winner Sir Peter Jackson called the sign a bit of "cheeky fun".

"It's Kiwi tongue-in-cheek humour at its very best, but beneath the leg-pulling is genuine pride," the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

"Several of the most popular films ever made were born in Miramar. Within a mile of the sign is the birthplace of Middle Earth and Pandora," he added. (ANI)
